Already in the 6th century the holy Goar settled directly opposite the Loreley rock at the location of today's city of Sankt Goar.
In the city centre you can visit the Stiftskirche. A church with Gothic frescos that is consecrated the holy Goar. A further object of interest is the catholic parish church with one of the most valuable altarpieces from the 15th century.
The greatest tourist attraction however is Rheinfels Fortress, the largest castle ruin on the Rhine, throning above Sankt Goar.
Sankt Goar offers possibilities for a multiplicity of sporty activities like e.g.:
Paragliding - also tandem flights - over the valley of the Loreley and
hiking on the trail Rhein Burgen Wanderweg.
Because of its sandy beach Sankt Goar is an ideal stopover for the romantic castles and palaces canoe tour and the bicycle tour through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage.
